Tammy came to us from a bad situation, rescued alongside others who had known the same hardship — and what was miraculous about her, what I will never stop thinking about, is that none of it had touched her heart. She still loved people. After everything, she still loved people. When my car pulled up she would already be moving across the field toward me, this big gentle creature coming to say hello, and I don’t think I will ever find a more straightforward expression of grace than that. She was a reminder that some souls are simply built generous, and that the world does not always manage to change them. I am so grateful she let me be part of hers.
